Chan Chee Mee

Violinist Chin Chee Mee is a director of Singapore’s Forte Musicadamy. She is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of Music, USA where she studied with Berl Senofsky. She also studied with renowned American virtuoso and pedagogue Charles Treger at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, where she earned a Masters Degree in violin performance.

Widely credited with building the Gifted Young Violinist programme at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts from the ground up, Chee Mee became NAFA’s deputy head of the School of Young Talents in 2004. During her tenure, students from her program won top prizes in Singapore’s National violin competition and coveted placements into prestigious music schools, such as the Menuhin school, Purcell school and Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore. After 10 years of service, she relinquished her position in 2009 to co-found Forte Musicademy. She also directs the Forte Camarata, made up of students from the Musicademy.

Chee Mee is also recognised for her work in string ensemble pedagogy. Her prize-winning ensembles include Singapore’s Temasek Junior College Chamber Ensemble (1988), Catholic High School (Primary) String Ensemble, and the Nanyang Primary School String Ensemble, which was the only ensemble, awarded three consecutive gold awards and three gold-with-honours awards in Singapore Youth Festival primary school category.
